Gilenya is a medication used to treat relapsing multiple sclerosis. Gilenya is a once-a-day capsule that has shown to slowed disability progression, cut relapses, and reduce lesions. Gilenya works by reducing the number of white blood cells in your body, thus preventing them from attacking your central nervous system.  

Who should not take Gilenya? 

Do not take Gilenya if you are allergic to any components in Gilenya. Do not take Gilenya if you had a stroke, heart attack or unstable angina within the last 6 months. Do not take Gilenya if you have an arrhythmia or any medications that changes you heart rate.  

What are the most common side effects? 

The most common side effects are increased blood pressure, flu-like symptoms, abdominal pain, and abnormal liver tests.
